Homoeopathy is a fast-growing
medical profession through out the world. Training in homoeopathic sciences is quite
variable in levels, quality and duration. There are schools,
colleges, faculties, institutes and universities which are
involved in homoeopathic education. In many countries, it is now offered as a
field of specialization in some medical institutions whereas
other institutes offer short and long courses. Similarly,
correspondence courses are available through Open University
of Complimentary Medicine, and homoeopathy is also taught as
workshop and seminars during International Congress every
year. DHMS or MB degree in Homoeopathy, as a homoeopath, enables a
person to practice (usually on a self-employed basis), using this effective system of medicine to help
their
patients.
Homoeopathy is a complete system of medicine, although many
professional homoeopaths work in homoeopathic clinics, on their own and in clinics including other alternative/complementary
therapists.
Homoeopathy has also earned a large number of converts from
other medical disciplines, every where. Any one who has
experienced the efficacy of homoeopathy embraced it. In
Pakistan there are over 1000 person from various medical
professions, who are practicing homoeopathy. There is hardly
any university, research organization, colleges, schools and
government offices where homoeopathic doctors are not present
and practicing it as a side business.
Homoeopaths are at a very exciting stage in the development of the profession.
They are breaking new ground as they gain greater public recognition, establish effective professional procedures and structures, form good relationships with other systems of health care, and develop an appropriate professional education. All
homoeopaths registered with the
National Council for Homoeopathy practice according to a Code of Ethics and Practice.
Homoeopathic Training in Pakistan
Homoeopathy developed in Pakistan as an art rather than a
science, with emphasis on increase in number of diploma
holders - DHMS. All the homoeopathic medical colleges are in private sector whereas
some organizations/individuals are offering certificate courses in
Homoeopathy and Allied Sciences including accupuncture,
electro-homoeopathy, radiesthesia, radionics, magrietotherapy,
moxibustion, etc in affiliation with foreign institutions like
OIUCM, Sri Lanka and British Institute of Homoeopathy,
England. However, both these institutions are not recognized
by the National Council for Homoeopathy.
A homoeopath must undertake four years of homoeopathic study and
six months of clinical experience, to become a registered
homoeopathic doctor. Homeopaths can also be medical doctors, and in
Pakistan, many homeopaths are also chiropractors, naturopaths, osteopaths, nurse practitioners, dentists and veterinarians.
Besides DHMS, a five years degree course MB (homoeopathy) has been
started at the following institutions, namely: Sindh
Homoeopathic Medical College & Hospital/Hyderabad with the
affiliation of University of Sindh, Jamshoro, Al-Khair
Universty (AJK), and Peshawar University.
Today, many colleges exist in different provinces of Pakistan.
